I’ve always wanted to have a shop full of things I found and loved. So when Leena Similu and James Mountford invited me to create an interactive art piece in a hotel room downtown as part of their inaugural Chronicles of LA, I embarked on putting together a poetic sex shop of objects I discovered at flea markets and thrift shops around Los Angeles. It consisted of shelves with collections of objects: cats, shells, items made of translucent yellow glass, vintage political porn magazines, phallic-shaped plants, things that go bang!, sexy things in the broadest sense of the word. These are the people and the items they bought; each choice felt destined.
